Duties include:

  • Providing desktop support in an open-plan environment of 1000+ computers running Windows XP and Windows 7
  • Supporting lecturers in the use of teaching-based IT facilities and ensuring all Audio Visual equipment are well-maintained
  • Providing user support in the use of a range of software including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Web Mail as well as the university’s VLE
  • Deploying and maintaining XP images on multiple workstations
  • Undertaking maintenance of computers, including upgrading and replacing faulty hardware and installing and troubleshooting computer peripherals
  • Proactively maintain the general health of computer systems using Kaspersky Administration Kit – installing anti-virus, pushing updates, etc

  • Installing operating systems and common desktop software
  • Virus removals, data recovery and data backup

Examples of project work undertaken:

  • Setting up a home cinema system complete with TV, projector, XBox 360, PC and surround sound
  • Setting up a home network with a XP machine running as a media server to stream music and videos to PlayStation 3
  • Building unattended XP installation disks, trimming down Windows and customising the default installation, etc

Interests and Hobbies
